About Me & My Work Experience at Suddene!
My name is Larissa, I am 20 years old and from near Frankfurt in Germany. I wanted to show as well as tell my story at Suddene and so there are lots of pictures that I have taken over the months here which I hope you will enjoy!
I came to Suddene Park in July 2017; I had just finished school and didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my future. My studies had included general education, and I took additional classes in the topics I really enjoyed - science and music.
The year I have spent at Suddene has given me the opportunity to experience working in a busy equestrian facility with many different types of horses and ponies as well as working as part of a team and with clients of all ages.
The variety of activities has included working with young horses, competitions (dressage, showing and showjumping), yard/facility management (I am now an expert in fencing and sweeping!), stable management and day to day care of horses (including feeding, exercise, common ailments), rehabilitation of injured horses and general schooling/hacking. I have also spent time at clinics and watching/assisting lessons.
Some of my highlights have been competing at Cob Shows, Dressage competitions and attending pole clinics with other trainers. I have really enjoyed other outings such as going to the Races in Chepstow, Wales with one of our clients, Maryclare, and her racehorse; learning about drag hunting from Dooley’s owner, Elinor, and then following the Tedworth Hunt on foot; plus a day out watching Polo at the world famous polo centre in Cirencester, with another of our lovely Suddene clients, Jill.
In my time here I have worked with some very lovely horses and improved both my riding and my horsemanship. I ride almost every day and also work with horses from the ground online and at Liberty.
Additionally, I have undertaken tasks on business and administration management, including keeping health and general records for horses; liaising with vets, farrier and physiotherapists. I have also been involved in keeping our Health & Safety, Risk Register and First Aid kits up to date.
My year at Suddene Park has made up my mind that I want to continue to work with horses, and with the experience and skills I had previously and those gained during the past 12 months, I have been fortunate enough to be offered places at four yards in Germany. I have decided to take up an offer at a relatively new venture with Grand Prix level horses in dressage and showjumping, as well as a newly established breeding facility and am looking forward to building my career further.

My Horses
Molly
Molly is a lovely, very kind 25 year old cob mare owned by Debbie & Georgie (who owned her since she was 9 years old). Molly spend some of her life as a riding school horse helping young and old learn to ride safely. She has been part of the team of horses used for Riding for the Disabled (RDA) and carefully looks after those who ride her. She loves hacking with her owners and still enjoys a good canter and even the occasional fun ride. I started schooling Molly in November 2017. She had had bad COPD (like asthma) in her previous yard and we wanted to build up her ability for aerobic exercise as well as develop her muscles and keep her joints in good shape. Along with careful management of her forage and stable environment, and with help from her vet, Molly is so much fitter, not needing any medication and is ready to go out and do some dressage competitions this year. |
Fino Fino is a very Spanish 14 year old Andalusian-Arab gelding who arrived in the UK from Spain in Summer 2017. He was originally a rescue horse who was rehomed to a riding school, where he was a loyal and favourite lead horse for many years. Fino had originally been trained in Doma Vaquera and Doma Classica, so the temperature as well as the riding style was very different for him in England; although his owner Vanessa rides him in the Spanish style so he feels at home! Fino has a very Spanish outlook on life and enjoys creating energy and drama. I have worked with him since August and in February we went to his first Riding Club dressage competition and obtained some good marks. He also enjoys hacking out with friends and particularly loved going XC training at a local course! |
